Financials now available in Operating!

We have been building project financials into Operating for a while, and we are happy to announce that it is now available to all of our customers. Thanks to everyone who tested the features and gave us feedback!

You can see revenue and margin estimates by defining how much you charge clients and how much your team costs. This enables your team to make smarter staffing decisions, price projects with confidence, and spot financial risks early.

Operating supports multiple currencies, adding rates and cost cards by role, seniority or site, position specific overrides for rates.

You can toggle on Financials under Settings > Financials. See our guide here for more details.

More options for importing rates for time entries

We have added options for importing rates for time entries to Operating. It is now possible to bring them in directly from Harvest, with the csv import, and with the API. If you are using our time tracking, using rate cards in Operating is still the easiest option.

Improvements to project team planning

During the planning stage of a project, it is often unclear who will be assigned to a specific role. In operating, we call this open position. We made the distinction between open positions and named team members clearer by splitting the team setup into two sections.

If you like to add some rough allocations to positions already during planning, it is now possible to do directly from the team setup view. Just click Add allocation.

Another minor convenience improvement: if you have specified that you are looking for a specific role, e.g. consultant, and click “choose person”, people with that role are shown first.

Project burnup with budgets and revenue

Revenue-based project burn-up chart is now available with budgets shown in the same picture. Easily see how the plans and actuals compare and how much budget there is left.

Plenty of financials-related reporting things still coming up

This is our initial release and we’re excited to hear what you think. Especially the reporting side of things will be significantly improved in the near future. As always, you can make your voice heard in https://support.operating.app
